DAWNLAND FESTIVAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Canvassing Volunteers are vital ambassadors for the festival, helping to broaden our reach and raise community awareness. In this role, volunteers distribute event flyers in public spaces such as libraries, community centers, coffee shops, and local businesses within their neighborhoods. Volunteers may also share digital versions of flyers on community boards or local social media groups to maximize visibility. This is a flexible opportunity that fits any schedule, making it easy for participants to contribute from wherever they are. Volunteers will receive a packet of event flyers, available for pickup at the museum or delivered by mail for convenience, along with clear instructions and suggested locations for distribution.

Sunday, July 12 | 5 - 7 pmSet Up and Breakdown Volunteers play a critical role in bringing the Dawnland Festival of Arts & Ideas to life at the College of the Atlantic. Volunteers will help with the physical setup of event spaces, including arranging tables and chairs, setting up signage, preparing booth areas, and assisting with audio-visual equipment as needed. During breakdown, volunteers will help efficiently disassemble and pack up materials, return supplies to storage, and ensure event spaces are left clean and orderly. Set up occurs on Saturday morning, while breakdown takes place on Sunday evening. This hands-on role is perfect for individuals who are dependable, enjoy teamwork, and like seeing their efforts make a visible difference.

Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12 | 9 am - 1 pm, 1 - 5 pm
This role is dedicated to supporting the well-being and positive experience of the artists participating in the Market. Responsibilities include regularly checking in with artists to ensure they have everything they need, distributing snacks and refreshments, coordinating and facilitating breaks, and serving as a friendly point of contact. Volunteers are also encouraged to engage in meaningful conversation with artists about their experience at the event, gather informal feedback, and help foster a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. This role is ideal for individuals who are personable, attentive, and passionate about supporting creative communities.

Saturday, July 11 | 9:30 am - 1:30 pm
Performer/panelist support volunteers play an essential role in supporting the smooth operation of festival events by assisting the Abbe staff and the Stage Manager. Responsibilities are varied and may include timekeeping to ensure programs run on schedule, ushering guests to their seats, setting up and breaking down stage equipment, and assisting panelists and performers with their preparations and transitions. This role requires adaptability, attention to detail, and strong communication skills. Stagehand volunteers are integral to creating a professional, welcoming, and efficient environment for both presenters and attendees. -

Abbe Booth Volunteers serve as friendly and knowledgeable ambassadors for the museum, playing a key role in enhancing the festival experience for attendees. Volunteers will greet visitors, answer questions about the event schedule and activities, and provide information about the Abbe Museum’s mission and ongoing programs. Additional responsibilities include selling Festival merchandise, processing payments, and maintaining an organized and welcoming booth environment. Volunteers will also encourage engagement with museum initiatives, such as membership, exhibitions, and educational opportunities. This role is ideal for individuals who are personable and eager to foster meaningful connections between the museum and the community.
MUSEUM VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Under the expert guidance of our Luce Curator of Exhibits and Collections, Dr. Aaron Miller, Collection Volunteers are actively involved in cataloging, organizing, and conducting essential research. Your support can make a tangible difference in preserving and showcasing our rich collections!
Commitment: At least 3 hours, once per week.
Volunteers will be trained.

We are seeking weekly volunteers to help deliver our programs, which include arts and crafts, storytelling, touch tables, and leading tours. If you love teaching moments or enjoy connecting with individuals from all walks of life, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
Commitment: 2 hours at least once per week.

We need volunteers to assist our marketing and development team in keeping up-to-date information flowing to our valued constituents, as well as assisting with mailings, data entry, and more! This is a great opportunity for everyone ranging from people who are social media influencers to folks who like to pick up the phone and chat to the very organized who love a good spreadsheet.
