These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of abbemuseum.org, including all content, features, and services available on the site, including online ticket purchases and merchandise orders. Please read them carefully before using our site.

By accessing or using our website, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our site.

1. About the Abbe Museum

The Abbe Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit museum located in Bar Harbor, Maine. The Museum operates abbemuseum.org as a public-facing information and commerce platform.

2. Use of This Website

You agree to use this website only for lawful purposes and in a manner that does not infringe the rights of others or restrict their use and enjoyment of the site. You may not:

  • Use the site for any fraudulent, unlawful, or harmful purpose

  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the site or its underlying systems

  • Transmit any viruses, malware, or harmful code

  • Scrape, harvest, or systematically collect data from the site without our written permission

3. Online Ticket Purchases

A. Ticket Sales

Tickets to the Abbe Museum may be purchased online through abbemuseum.org. Prices and availability are subject to change without notice. All ticket sales are processed in U.S. dollars.

B. Refund and Exchange Policy

  • All ticket sales are final. We do not offer refunds or exchanges except in the following circumstances:

  • The Museum is closed on the date of your visit due to an emergency or weather event

  • The specific program for which you purchased a ticket has been canceled by the Museum

If either of the above applies, please contact us at info@abbemuseum.org within 14 days of your scheduled visit to request a refund or exchange.

C. Admission Eligibility

Certain admission categories require valid documentation at the time of entry, including:

  • Tribal ID — free admission for enrolled members of federally recognized tribes

  • Military ID — active duty and veteran military personnel

  • Museum membership — valid membership card required

  • Museums for All (EBT/SUN Bucks) — valid benefit card required

The Abbe Museum reserves the right to verify eligibility at the door. Tickets purchased in a discounted or free category without valid documentation may require payment of the standard admission rate at entry.

D. Group Visits

Groups of 10 or more visitors must contact the Museum in advance to arrange their visit. Online ticket purchases are available for groups of 9 or fewer. Group reservation inquiries may be directed to info@abbemuseum.org.

4. Merchandise Orders

A. Online Store

The Abbe Museum offers merchandise for sale through our online store, powered by ShopKeep. By placing an order, you agree to provide accurate and complete information, including a valid shipping address and payment method.

B. Order Processing

You will receive an email confirmation when your order has shipped. Shipping times vary based on your location and selected shipping method.

C. Returns and Exchanges

We want you to be satisfied with your purchase. If you receive a damaged or defective item, please contact us at info@abbemuseum.org.

D. Sales Tax

Sales tax will be applied to orders where required by applicable law.

5. Intellectual Property

All content on abbemuseum.org — including text, photography, exhibition descriptions, logos, graphics, and design — is the property of the Abbe Museum or is used with permission from the rights holders, including Wabanaki artists and community members. All rights are reserved.

You may not reproduce, distribute, publicly display, or create derivative works from any content on this site without the prior written consent of the Abbe Museum and, where applicable, the original artist or rights holder.

The Museum recognizes and respects the intellectual property rights of Wabanaki artists and knowledge holders. Requests to use artwork, photography, or cultural content from our collections or exhibitions should be directed to info@abbemuseum.org.

6. Wabanaki Cultural Content

The Abbe Museum presents content related to Wabanaki Nations, artists, and communities with care, respect, and in partnership with those communities. Users of this website agree not to reproduce, appropriate, or misuse cultural content, traditional knowledge, or artistic work featured on this site.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

This website is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, express or implied. The Abbe Museum does not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components. We reserve the right to modify or discontinue any feature of the site at any time.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Abbe Museum shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of or inability to use this website or its services, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
