We're looking forward to welcoming you to Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island this year. We do want you to be aware, though, that we have an exciting project happening on the island that may lead to some delays in getting to us.

The main road, Route 3, which you'll use to get to Bar Harbor, is undergoing a facelift. We're getting better sidewalks, a multi-use path, paved shoulders on our roads, and several new bus turnouts. Much thought has gone into this project and we promise that detours have been designed to keep traffic flowing. But if you find yourself caught up in a little bit of traffic, please know that it will be worth it!

There is a website specific to the construction project and you can even sign up for updates. Also, follow #BarHarborRt3 on any social media platform for updates.

A beloved summer resident of Bar Harbor, during the 1920s Dr. Abbe assembled a collection of early Native American artifacts found in the Frenchman Bay area.
