Emma Hassencahl-Perley, visiting Wolastoqwiw artist, will host a two-day art demonstration on carving. She will be carving a "welcome sign" out of wood with wooden hand tools and talking about the mistreatment Indigenous women and the lateral violence they face at the hands of Indigenous men in our own communities. Emma will be drawing on family history, pulling inspiration from the difficulties and challenges faced by her great grandmother, Marjorie Perley, in Tobique First Nation.
Hassencahl-Perley has exhibited in venues such as the Aberdeen Cultural Centre in Moncton, the Government House in Fredericton, Start Gallery in Sackville, the Winnipeg Art Gallery in Winnipeg and the Roundhouse Gallery in Vancouver, BC
This program is free with the cost of admission and is open to the public at the Abbe Museum’s downtown location. Questions? Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
