The Abbe is excited to announce the opening of our new exhibit Emergence - Root Clubs of the Penobscot Nation. This exhibit celebrates a uniquely Wabanaki art form, a centuries-old craft that has frequently been dismissed by museums and academics as not “traditionally” Wabanaki. These clubs, carved from the root balls of birch and poplar trees, have been created by Wabanaki artists for hundreds of years. Read more over on the Abbe blog.
Please note that our winter hours are in effect as of Thursday, November 2nd. We will be open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays 10 am - 4 pm, and admission is FREE thanks to the generosity of Machias Savings Bank!
