The Abbe is pleased to host a basketmaking demonstration with Frances Soctomah. A citizen of the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Indian Township, Frances grew up learning the traditional art of brown ash and sweetgrass basketry from her grandmother. She is a graduate of Bowdoin College where she earned her degree in Sociology with a minor in Anthropology. Frances has interned with the Maine Indian Basketmakers Alliance (MIBA) and completed a fellowship in the Development Department at the Peabody Essex Museum.

This program is sponsored by Dawnland, LLC and offered in partnership with Acadia National Park. It is free and open to the public. Be sure to come back at 4 pm for a book event with Gabriel Frey, Passamaquoddy, and David Schultz.
