The museum
has two Bar Harbor locations:
Abbe Museum
in Downtown Bar Harbor
Abbe Museum
at Sieur de Monts Spring
Abbe
Museum Downtown is located at 26 Mount Desert
Street (Rte. 3), Bar Harbor, across from
the Village Green.
Abbe Museum at Sieur de Monts Spring
is located just off Route 3 in, Acadia National Park.
Abbe Museum Downtown:
Winter Hours: November 8 through May 17, 2008:
Museum and Museum Shop
open 3 days per week (Thursday, Friday &
Saturday) 10am to 4pm
Open by appointment to researchers and school groups
Monday through Friday year-round.
Abbe Museum at Sieur de Monts Spring:

Directions and
Parking
Abbe Museum downtown:
Follow Rte. 3 from Ellsworth
onto Mount Desert Island. Continue on Rte. 3 to
downtown Bar Harbor. The museum is located at
26 Mount Desert Street (Rte. 3) across from the
Bar Harbor Village Green.
Free on street and municipal
parking available near the museum.
Abbe Museum at Sieur de Monts Spring:
Follow Rte. 3 through Bar
Harbor, turn right at the Sieur de Monts entrance
to Acadia National Park and follow the signs to
the Nature Center, Wild Gardens of Acadia and
the Abbe. From the Park Loop Road, exit at Sieur
de Monts.
Park in the Sieur de Monts parking
lot and follow the path behind the Nature Center
up the hill to the museum.
Accessibility
Abbe Museum downtown:
The Abbe Museum downtown is fully
wheelchair accessible.
A handicapped entrance and parking are available
behind the museum off of School Street. But the
accessible main entrance on Mount Desert Street
is the preferred entrance if you have someone to
drop you off in front off the museum or assist you
from on-street parking.
Abbe Museum at Sieur de Monts Spring:
The Sieur de Monts museum, although
accessible, is located up a moderately steep path
from the parking lot. Limited parking is available,
by appointment, beside the museum entrance. Please
call ahead to make arrangements 207/288.2179.
Museum Guidelines
To ensure that you and others enjoy
visiting the museums, please observe the following
guidelines:
Pets are not allowed in the museums (except
for guide dogs).
If you are carrying
a cell phone or pager, please turn it off or set
it on a quiet mode. Please make calls only while
outside the museums.
No photography or audio/video
taping is permitted anywhere inside the Abbe. Media
permission may be obtained through the development
office.
Please observe the no-smoking rule
inside the museums and while enjoying the outdoor
spaces.
Please wear shirts and shoes at
all times.
No umbrellas, large bags, backpacks
or backpack baby carriers are allowed in the galleries.
These objects may be left at the Admissions Desk
during your visit.

Groups of 10 or more people receive a reduced fee
of $5 per personwith advance reservation.

Guided Tours (10 or morewith

Guided tours may be arranged for groups of 10
or more, pending staff availability. All guided
