Marsha Donahue

Dawn to Dusk
Native to Maine, Marsha was educated at Maine College of Art and American University in Washington, D.C. She founded North Light Gallery in Millinocket in 2004. In her compositionally complex watercolors, she employs vivid coloration and sophisticated use of light to create dynamic Maine landscapes, particularly of interior Maine, near Katahdin, where she now resides.
"This is dedicated to the four Maine Indian tribes - Maliseet, Micmac, Passamaquoddy, and Penobscot - illustrating their land from "the People of the Dawn" to the sacred mountain, Katahdin and the rivers and plains in between. I wanted to use some of their traditional design elements but finally decided to just include the land and animals they hold most sacred and have been trusted stewards of for so many generations. This paddle is my thank you, as a native of Maine whose family goes back to the Mayflower, for sharing their land with us, and an expression of my fervent hope that they may some day see gratitude flow back toward their people."
