This Renaissance-revival style chair is decorated with porcupine quilled birchbark panels. Micmac quillworkers created these decorative panels, which were then attached to chairs by non-Native furniture makers. The Micmac artisans were responding to Victorian tastes for elaborately decorative objects for their homes. They used traditional techniques and designs to meet the demand of the non-Native market.
This chair features porcupine quilled birchbark panels created by Micmac quillworkers.
