Ancient Dish Game Demonstration with
Watie Akins, Penobscot Elder
10:30 - 11:30
The Abbe Museum is proud to announce a unique community event. Join us on Saturday, February 13th from 10:30 to 11:30am as Watie Akins, Penobscot Elder, demonstrates the centuries old dish game called Walade hamagan in the Penobscot language.
Watie is one of the last tribal members to know how this game is played. The game is played in three stages and Watie will demonstrate and teach participants the essentials of each stage before moving on to the next.
Watie believes the game has an important spiritual connection when using natural materials, and the more attention to detail you give to making the game pieces, the greater success you will have in the game.
