Children ages 6 through 18 will learn how to weave a simple ash basket with a sweetgrass rim, known as a candy basket or trinket basket. Pam will start the baskets, and children will learn how to weave the ash around a mold, and create a rim. Children will leave with a basket of their own creation that will last them a lifetime. 2012 Waponahki Student Art Show
A Collaboration of Maine Indian Education
and the Abbe Museum
The Waponahki Student Art Show brings together a wonderful variety of art created by Native American students from early childhood education through high school. Using a wide array of media, these young artists incorporate traditional beliefs and values with the modern, multi-cultural world around them.
Exhibit runs through October 2012 in the Abbe Museum's Community Gallery.
